But today, of all days, it is brought home to me, it is no bad thing to celebrate a simple life."Bilbo Baggins said that in the movie The Fellowship of the Ring when he celebrated his eleventy-first birthday. Today is my 38th, and I am glad I believe the way Bilbo does. At the start of this year, I wrote that quote on my planner to remind me every single day that there is cause to celebrate my life.
My husband and I marvel at our life. It's so much simpler than before. Much messier, and a lot noisier because of the kids. But the noise is just in our ears, unlike before, when the noise of being young and insecure and ambitious and scared was messing with our heads and our hearts.
Today, our lives are filled with each other and with babies. This week, Piero rolled over for the first time, Iñigo surprised us by finally talking up a storm, and Vito went to preschool for the first time. Our hearts are full of love and pride and a bittersweetness that pinches our hearts.
It's a beautiful life. A simple life. An elegant life. A peaceful life. A blessed life. Today, of all days, it is brought home to me that my life is overflowing with love and joy, and I am grateful.
